Introduction to Low-E Glass

Low-E glass, also known as low emissivity glass, is a film product composed of multiple layers of metal or other compounds coated on the surface of glass. Its main functional layer is usually the silver layer, because silver is one of the substances with the lowest emissivity in nature. By coating a nano level silver layer on the surface of glass, the emissivity of the glass can be significantly reduced, thereby achieving energy-saving effects.

The Main Characteristics of Low-E Glass Include

Excellent thermal insulation effect: The coating layer of Low-E glass has the characteristics of high visible light transmission and high reflection of mid to far infrared rays. This means that it can ensure good indoor lighting and effectively block the entry of outdoor heat, achieving insulation effect.

Good transparency: The visible light transmittance of Low-E glass can theoretically range from 0% to 95% (although 6mm white glass is difficult to achieve 95%), ensuring sufficient natural lighting indoors.

Energy saving and environmental protection: The use of Low-E glass can significantly reduce the energy consumption of buildings, especially in winter, by reducing the fuel consumption for heating, thereby reducing the emissions of harmful gases such as CO2 and SO2, and playing an environmental role.

Multifunctionality: With the advancement of technology, the types of Low-E glass are constantly increasing, such as single silver, double silver, triple silver Low-E glass, etc. These glasses have superior performance in thermal performance, shading coefficient, etc., and are suitable for different building needs.

There are Two Main Production Methods for Low-E glass

Online high-temperature pyrolysis deposition method: This method completes the coating during the cooling process of float glass, and the film layer is tightly bonded to the glass, with good durability, but relatively poor thermal performance.

Offline vacuum magnetron sputtering coating method: This method completes coating on an independent coating glass production line and can produce various configurations of Low-E glass. The coating layer is uniform and has excellent thermal properties, but the film layer is relatively fragile and usually needs to be processed into insulating glass for use.

Application Areas of Low-E glass

Low-E glass  is widely used in various fields such as construction, automobiles, and ships due to its excellent performance. In the field of architecture, it is mainly used for energy-saving renovation and new construction projects of doors, windows, curtain walls, and other parts; In the automotive industry, it is used to manufacture components such as windshields and side windows to improve driving comfort and safety.

In short, Low-E glass, as a building material with excellent thermal insulation and good transparency, is gradually becoming an indispensable and important component in modern buildings and transportation.
