Various machines have different components that, when combined, work together as a whole. The equipment will not last forever and will eventually deteriorate through use. The use of mechanical lubrication protects these machines from deterioration while maintaining their designed function.
However, using the wrong type or not applying sufficient lubrication can lead to machine damage, equipment failure, and leaks. Therefore it is important to choose the correct lubricant for your machine.
Usually, these oil seals are used to seal lubricating oil or grease and contain it within the application, so that moving parts such as bearings are continually supplied with enough lubrication. However, such seals are also used for sealing other liquids, gases, and solids, such as powders or granules.
The temperature within the oil seal environment is the main factor that dictates the composition of an oil seal. Generally, there is a range of set temperatures that are optimal for that material. If the operating environment is too cold, the seal may become brittle and, at high temperatures, the seal material may show increased elasticity and become leaky.
